First PICNIC in Hong Kong has brought a new dimension to
the project. If previous collaboration between Orkney and Berlin was
an exchange between subjective contextualism represented by LAPW and
teaching methodology development by Mal-und Zietschule, C&G Artpartment
in Hong Kong added a new direction – political activism: direction
which became a part of Hong Kong identity and main force behind new
art developments creating a feeling of permanent demonstration, protest
and concern about everyday international news and a very local ones....read

PAPAY
GYRO NIGHTS 2011 ART FESTIVAL |
 |
Dates: 14 - 21 FEBRUARY 2011
PAPAY GYRO NIGHTS 2011
1ST INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY ART FESTIVAL
EXPERIMENTAL FILM, VIDEO, INSTALLATION, PAINTING,
MUSIC AND ARCHITECTURE
After eight days of the first PAPAY GYRO NIGHTS, which took place
around the first full moon of February as it used to be from old
ancient times on our island, we can say our ancestors were bunch
of mad, fun loving people. The worst weather is coming to Orkney
in February - the gale which will rip you off the ground and will
lift a coo into the air; the sea which will smash any brave boat
to pieces and will feed the crew to sea monsters, and you will get
so fed up with winter darkness that no any member of your family
will stop you to venture into the night and search for gyros or
to turn into one.
After eight days we can say for sure - madness pays, as the next
day after Gyro Nights were finished spring came to Papay, as ancestors
promised, the sun was shining and all faces were happier...

A
NOVEL BY JAMES HESFORD: THE QUIESCENT ELECTRIC GUITARIST |
 |
Maltby
is a South Yorkshire mining village full of Teddy Boys, psychopaths
and hard-nosed mining lads. It's the 1950's and David is living on
the Cliff Hills Estate with his dysfunctional family. He is a “soft
lad” – a ten years old under-achiever, but willing to
work hard for the £25 he needs to buy his beautiful Hofner electric
guitar. He wants to be the new Duane Eddy or Hank Marvin (even) and
tour the world with his Uncle Wilf and Gordon’s Rock n’
Roll Band.
Life takes a downward turn when David, through no fault of his own,
is sentenced to 18 months weekend detention in Rotherham Scrubs. Honesty
and hard graft didn’t work. Has he got what it takes to survive
the brutality, defeat his corrupt probation officer and realize his
dream?
the book will be released soon and available from Land Art Shop
